So I just woke up because of a pretty crazy dream. It wasn't a nightmare, nor was it a bad dream. However, now it has me thinking. The dream had to do with my primary totem, a dragon who is named and shall be referred to this point forward as "Luna". I plan on telling a little backstory, so grab a drink and/or snack, sit down, and give it a read. I warn you now, this may be a little lengthy. I figure since the dream is about her, now would be an excellent time to tell how I met Luna. I will make two cuts, so if you want to skip straight to the dream, feel free.
As it is stated in my introductory post to DW, Luna made herself known to me a little over 9 years ago. My mother had passed on after fighting her battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma that had eventually spread into her lungs. My family and I were devastated, after watching her suffer the way she did. However, she did go peacefully, in her sleep. There was some slight relief with that.My mother and I had always had a fixation on dragons. We would draw them, and we even had a few (at the time) statues and a really neat looking candle-holder shaped like the head of a dragon. The eyes are translucent, so when there is a lit candle in the holder, it looks really fucking cool. The story continues with this candle-holder. I had pulled it out of storage and was dusting it. I was about to put it with the rest of my dragon statue collection. Out of nowhere, Butch, our family dog at the time, jumped up and had smacked it right out of my hand. It fell, and the interior holder fell out. Nothing broke, thankfully, but the strangest thing...
There was a PENDANT inside of the dragon head. I'm thinking either it was in the box along with the dragon and had gotten stuck in there while moving, or my mother had put it there before we moved 16 years as she was packing it. Either way, I have momento of my mother's that I'm still wearing to this day. It is made of pewter (I had ruled out iron since there isn't any rust), and is in the shape of a Celtic cross. Between each of the cross's ends, there is another piece, and if put together, it looks like there's a circle behind the cross. Each piece has a blue, clearish resin. On each part of the cross, there are 2 triquetra, and in the middle where each piece meets, there is a circle with 4 more triquetra.
Now for the fun parts:
Since day 1 of wearing that pendant, I had dreams of a hulking blue dragon. The scales reflect light like that of ice. Her eyes are usually violet in color, but are sometimes green. When most people have dreams of dragons, they are being eaten, ripped to shreds, or have other not-nice things happen to them. No, instead, the dragon was consoling me; encouraging me. It was strange. Of course, being as young and stupid as I was, I shrugged these dreams off. I didn't think that they bore any sort of significance. I thought my imagination was being vivid without me awake and aware.
A few days later, I began to see this dragon...when I was awake. It would do the same thing as it would in the dream. Make a few motions, and a few new ones such as urging me to go towards it. All I could think was "Fuck...I lost my mother, and now I'm losing my mind because of it." Not even 2 days later, I took the pendant off, and I stopped seeing this dragon altogether. On the one month anniversary, I pretty much broke down. I had pretty much holed up in my room the entire time. I put the pendant on again, and had gone to sleep.
I heard the words "Wake up." It was a woman's voice, and it had a little bit of snappiness to it. I had "opened my eyes" and I say it like that because it was a dream. I sure as hell wasn't in my room. I was in a forested area, in the middle of a rock that was in the middle of a smaller, but deep lake, and there was a HUGE waterfall. The sun was shining, and the water was clean, and crystal clear. I then looked back at the waterfall, and from behind it, came the very same blue dragon. Sadly, I don't remember much more of the dream, except for these lines "Your family needs you. Chin up, and remember your pride."
It was only a few years ago that she revealed her name to me. "Call me 'Luna'" she said, "I think you would have trouble pronouncing my actual name." And the rest is history.
Now for the dream:
She usually doesn't meddle in my dreams anymore. She'd rather be as subtle as a wrecking ball against a car and talk to me when I'm awake. I know a few others can attest to this. I don't mind, not in the least. However, I think she may have been trying to get a message across.
The dream started out on a plain. There were mountains in the distance. It was storming, and it was raining pretty hard.
I wasn't in my usual attire. I was clad in gray armor with golden trim. There was blood smeared all over it. However, it wasn't my blood. I was able to walk normally. I had a weapon; a lance. It was almost ruined. Cracks all around, some of it had even chipped off.
I was walking towards Luna. I could see her in the distance. She was also fighting. She was up against a black dragon, almost equal in size. Behind her were MORE dragons. Another black one, a green one, 2 gold dragons, a white dragon, and a red dragon. They were watching the fight, not stepping in. Apparently, this is solely between Luna and the other black one. I made it there to watch the fight conclude. Luna took him down, pinned his head on the ground, and snapped his neck. She turned to me, still feral, but came to her senses very soon after.
"I'm sorry you had to see that," she said. Then I woke up. Like I said, this wasn't a bad dream, nor a nightmare, but this is definitely a "What the fuck?" moment.
One thing is for certain. I don't think this is an internal struggle. Lucien and, (at very rare times, Justice), makes appearances in those dreams, and neither of them were in this one.
Anyhow. Time to try sleeping again.
